Racism and Prejudice in Snow Falling on Cedars

You must have read Snow Falling on Cedars before

In the novel, there are many instances where race and prejudice influence the action

and plot development of the novel. In this assignment, you will write a creative

interpretation of the issue by placing yourself in the shoes of one of the characters. You

will take on the persona of one of the characters and consider the effect of racism on

their lives.

As the character, you will write a two to three page diary entry as a character from the

novel, many years after the incidents took place. As the older version of that character,

reflect on the experiences of their lives during WWII and how racism and prejudice has

affected their lives.
